De sejmik (2023) (E01)

Engels I could easily rate the pilot episode three stars without feeling guilty about it. However, the intro reminded me a lot of the first season of the British series Blackadder, which I absolutely loved back in the day. While the Polish humor here was a bit weaker, I still had a great time. Adamczewski, who is sure to become the almost most famous John Paul in Polish history, had to deal with the typical challenges of the era, including reading encrypted messages without knowing cryptology. The humor varied in quality, but it worked for me. The three starving siblings had me laughing out loud, so yeah, it was a fun watch. "Nobody ever gave me anything for free in my life, I had to inherit everything myself." / Lesson learned: If you don't expect anything, you can't be disappointed. ()

Folwark (2023) (E02)

Engels The series continued in the same vein with its second episode, and while it's no masterpiece, the humor really worked for me. The local Jew's efforts to fit into stereotypical boundaries were particularly hilarious. What stands out the most is the Polish creators' ability to poke fun at their own nationalism. The ability to laugh at oneself has always been one of my favorite human traits. ()

Wiosna (2023) (E03)

Engels I have to admit, I wavered between three and four stars this time. Throughout the episode, I often felt the plot could be more engaging. But then, moments like the conversation during Morana's drowning scene or the perfect ending to the engagement ceremony made me reconsider. / "I definitely vote for the effigy." "Yes but you're not impartial, Morana." / "I think he can fail at least twice. Maids are a dime a dozen." / Lesson: Metal utensils have their advantages. 4*- ()

Marsz równości (2023) (E04)

Engels Unlike the previous episode, there were no dull moments, and I watched with my usual crooked smile as the plot skewered all the typical Polish prejudices. I found myself genuinely laughing out loud at times, especially at the reference to an old Polish TV quiz show, which was just perfect. The Jewish float and the entire march, including its opponents, were equally hilarious. / Lesson learned: Not everyone can be a puppeteer. 4*+ ()

Dżuma (2023) (E05)

Engels There were some funny moments, but overall, this was the weakest episode I've seen so far. The storyline with the mushrooms had clear potential but was completely squandered, ending up as a mere appendix to the fifth episode. It wasn't just the mushrooms, though; the traveling theater plot fell flat, and the plague storyline didn't quite hit the mark either. The result was a rather unfortunate mishmash. / Lesson learned: Never, I repeat, never discuss disease symptoms with a hypochondriac. ()
