Perhaps from the very beginning of watching Korean series, I felt that this series is one of those "legends" that you "have to" see as a fan. Still, it took me almost a decade to get to it. On the one hand, I'm glad because I love going back to the days when TV series were made like this. A dramatic, hard-to-believe script, even more dramatic music, and crazy overacting by the actors. Just a Korean soap opera and fairy tale all rolled into one. If I wanted to make fun of the show, I could come up with a whole bunch of things, including the regular eavesdropping on other people's conversations from around the corner. But the truth is, my heart hasn’t ached this beautifully for anything in a long time. Almost everything in the story is improbable, yet I devoured it and more than once cut short a night's sleep because of it. I mostly enjoyed the time when the romantic storyline was unfolding. Because watching the lovestruck Seung-gi Lee change, and how torn he is inside, was really nice. The main character was great too, not to mention the grandmother. The last few episodes were more of a formality, but definitely don't let the number of episodes put you off. Back then, SBS cared a lot about running time, so it doesn't take much more time than today's cable shows with their classic twenty episodes. 4.5 stars ()
