Losers, hoboes, junkies, rappers, con artists, traffickers, midgets, and madmen. This epic panopticon of spectres and phantasms from the underworld of Manila’s slums forms a brutal freak show. Prostitution, hunger, paedophilia, crime – the basic elements of a hedonistic travesty, a stylish gangster movie, a lo-fi musical, a cruel shadow play without heroes or values. An uncontrolled orgy of colour and distorted images heightens the aesthetics of filth and loathing. Khavn returns to the scene of the crime with the passion of a cinematic brutalist.
