Season 4 (2022) (S04)
Why this season has nearly double the runtime of the previous ones is a mystery to me. It feels like it was written by someone obsessed with filler. I'll watch the fifth season because I don't want to give up so close to the end, but I already regret the time I'll waste on it. I just hope the finale isn't six hours long; I'd rather finally watch Sátántangó if that's the case. Stranger Things has sadly fallen victim to the current state of the film and VOD industry. What felt like a fresh product for a specific audience in 2015 has turned into an overblown, megalomaniac attempt to please everyone, including those who have Netflix on while ironing. I forgave a lot in the third season and still enjoyed it despite the tonal shift, but this season jumped the shark quickly. The once charming characters have become annoying caricatures, and the horror mystery has morphed into a superhero comedy with a boogeyman. And of course, spin-offs and a connected multiverse are on the horizon, sealing its fate as a Marvel wannabe. Damn you, Duffer brothers!
