Javed (Viveik Kalra) is a Pakistani teenager who experiences racial and economic turmoil while living in Luton, England, in 1987. He writes poetry as a way to escape the intolerance of his hometown and the stubborn views of his traditional father. When a classmate introduces him to the music of Bruce Springsteen, Javed sees parallels between the singer's powerful lyrics and his own working-class environment. Springsteen's melodies soon inspire Javed to find his own voice and follow his dreams. Developed by Gurinder Chadha and British journalist Sarfraz Manzoor's shared passion for Bruce Springsteen and based on Manzoor's celebrated rite of passage memoir 'Greetings from Bury Park', chronicles his experiences as a British Muslim boy growing up in 1980's Luton and the impact Springsteen's lyrics had upon him. Engels "My hope is to build a bridge to my ambitions, but not a wall between my family and me." - This biopic has its flaws, I could easily have done without the musical scenes. However, overall it has a nice positive energy and the soundtrack is also quite good. +++ "Son, this Bruce Springsteen, are you sure he's American?" - "Yes. And not Jewish." - "I read his songs. He says work hard, don't give up, honor your parents. This man must be Pakistani." (70%) ()
