Engels The swan song of the popular modern co-production fairy tales of the Polák-Hofman tandem. The two-part film was made according to written ideas from the estate of Ota Hofman and was also the last work of Jindřich Polák. It thus closed a significant chapter of Czech cinema. Helena Vitovská as Kačenka matured as an actress years after her initial projects. The parents played by Schmitzer and Pehrová were pleasantly civil, but who got the most deserved attention was of course the trio of ghosts - Svatopluk Beneš as the magical Dr. Caligari, Eva Vejmělková as the spicy Art Nouveau lady Elvíra, as well as Jiřina Bohdalová as the fearful dog-witch Berta. Engels I simply have a nostalgic attachment to this film, although it's true that nowadays I can't appreciate it as much. It had an impact on me as a boy, and I still enjoy the characters in it to this day. Moreover, since then, Prater and houses of horror have fascinated me. I didn't visit either of them properly. Even after years, I still think it's a beautiful, albeit modern, and sometimes very naive fairy tale. However, the special effects are excellent. ()
