Wow, things were happening at Prague Castle! Steven Soderbergh has brought a playful combination of a "Kafka movie" and a "kafkaesque movie". The result is a visually precise work with absolutely gorgeous black and white cinematography and very memorable performances. On top of that, I really liked Soderbergh's work with the locations. Prague within his artistic viewpoint looks both completely familiar and completely alien, like something from another world. It is only when Josef Abrhám and Ondřej Havelka appear on screen that you know you are really on Czech soil. And I really didn't expect the science fiction realms this film would eventually venture into. [KVIFF 2024]
