The Gentlemen (2024)

Engels Right from the start, I have to say that I enjoyed the series a lot. However, I was quite disappointed that the creators barely tapped into the potential of, in my opinion, the best character: Jeff, the groundskeeper, gamekeeper, and mentor. I've touched on this in my episode reviews, but it's worth mentioning again that Guy Ritchie didn't fully utilize his potential either. Sure, it wasn't his script, but I still expected a lot more dark humor and something beyond the current cheap tricks. I've noticed that the concept of an unexpected twist has quietly vanished from films and series. Instead, we're stuck with its younger sibling from the Twist family: Expected Twist, who goes by the nickname Essentially Annoying. This nuisance dominated the series, especially in the last three episodes, and it really spoiled the overall experience for me. / Lesson learned: When preserving family traditions and estates, the end justifies the means. ()

Refined Aggression (2024) (E01)

Engels Excessive hype usually makes me cautious, so I kept my expectations low. I wasn't disappointed, but I also wasn't swept away by a tsunami of excitement. It was a classic pilot that introduced the characters, setting, and circumstances of the upcoming story, where it seems I won't have anyone to root for. When it comes to drugs, I dislike the producers, distributors, and end-users, so I'll likely remain a strongly impartial viewer. Guy Ritchie is clearly evolving, moving away from the humor that marked his early films... Let's wait and see where it goes from here. / Lesson learned: A stoned chicken shouldn't be handling a shotgun. ()

Tackle Tommy Woo Woo (2024) (E02)

Engels This episode was significantly better than the pilot, driven by more violence and the cleanup that followed. Given the choice between rooting for marijuana growers, cocaine distributors, or meth dealers, I remain an impartial viewer, indifferent to who ends up in the trunk next. / Lesson learned: If Antón Castillo shows up, it's definitely about Viviro — no question about it. ()

Where's My Weed At? (2024) (E03)

Engels The episode felt mostly like filler. But hey, it was highly entertaining filler. The driver of the white van wouldn't be my first, second, or even third choice for the job, but it was worth it for the laughs. / Lesson learned: If organized crime can't be eradicated, at least let it be run by professionals. ()

An Unsympathetic Gentleman (2024) (E04)

Engels Each new episode gets more ridiculous, with an overabundance of total idiots among the characters. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy this parade of absurdity. It was basically another side plot used as a delaying tactic, but I had a good laugh and learned that English nobility collects almost anything (just like many weirdos withot a noble title). / Lesson learned: German Shepherds often have quite the refined palate. ()

I've Hundreds of Cousins (2024) (E05)

Engels Light breeze, slight rain, and sixteen hours without internet. I thought I wouldn't write anything today... / The series has its positives, it also has many downsides, but above all, it remains an entertaining matter. However, the fifth episode aroused a lot of negative emotions in me when it involved an ethnicity with which I have a serious and unremovable problem. Apparently, I suffer from something that could probably be called selective racism because when you put representatives of both of our largest Asian minorities next to each other, I have a very nice relationship with the Vietnamese, which sometimes goes beyond admiration (although occasionally a worm appears in their apple), while I perceive the Rajasthani immigrants unequivocally negatively based on repeated personal experiences (several healthy pieces of apple are not too visible for the amount of worms). For this reason, the creators amused me but didn't completely please me. / Lesson learned: Knowing how to read and write is not so important if you master numbers, have the laws at your fingertips, and know the word dyscriminacyja. ()

All Eventualities (2024) (E06)

Engels What a strange episode — dark and threatening. Everyone had an air of mystery, uttering words that hinted at threats to one side or another. There were super secret plans being hatched, which I assume will be dramatically revealed in the finale and it was all starting to get on my nerves. This wasn’t one of those episodes I enjoyed. / Lesson learned: "Hi, great to see you for the second time ever. Could you launder fifteen million for me?" Yeah, that really came off as believable. ()

Not Without Danger (2024) (E07)

Engels The longer I watch this series, the more disappointed I feel. Guy Ritchie used to make great films, so I was expecting witty British humor, fantastic action, and a lot of original ideas from this show. Instead, the script feels forced at times with a highly predictable plot that leaves me shrugging at every reveal. / Lesson learned: Life has its share of minor and major disappointments. ()

The Gospel According to Bobby Glass (2024) (E08)

Engels Well, the final episode unfolded exactly as expected — the creators failed to surprise me with their "unexpected" twists, reinforcing my belief that Guy Ritchie has given up on his former wit and originality. But I don't want to sound too negative, because it was still an entertaining episode, and I definitely wasn't bored. It's just that when I started watching this series, I hoped for much more than a frequent recycling of the director's old ideas. By the way, that moment when nobody heard three cars leaving on a gravel driveway was priceless. / Lesson learned: If you're in the drug business, math skills come in handy. ()
