Mother/Android

Phew, so I naively put a few of my favourites on the review hoping that it might not be that bad, but no, it's really bad. A two-hour draggy borefest that has absolutely nothing to offer apart from the opening five minutes and a shocking twist 3/4 of the way through; the rest is just a bad joke where literally nothing happens in 100 minutes and the whole film is pedaling in place, not knowing what to do next. Chloe Grace Moretz isn't as expressive as I would have liked, the general idea of androids taking over the world is a sci-fi element and you can build a whole film around it, but here it was used woefully little, both in terms of visuals (the androids are not interesting, they're basically just humans...) and in terms of plot (we see almost no origin or background of the androids, or anything else...). Simply one big, blown-up 110 minutes of NOTHING. (09.01.2022)
