The Ridiculous 6

Sure, it's a bit weak compared to Sandler's other work, but on the other hand, I have such an uncritical fondness for him, much like my love for westerns, that I simply enjoyed this film. I had a good time, especially in the first half where I chuckled quite a bit, although it's true that the baseball element is unnecessary. There are plenty of references that only Sandler fans will truly get, but that's okay, and I still enjoyed this film. (28.01.2016)

Adam Sandler – wacky as always. The guys from his crew wanted to make a parody of western movies so they took it into their hands in their own way. I would say that the casting of characters is brilliant. But what is not so brilliant is the humor in this movie. Usually, I can handle Adam. I like him so that is not the problem. The problem is that there is unnecessarily too much humor which sometimes can lead to awkward scenes even though usually I do like Adam. The guys just wanted to be cool no matter what and to get rid of all those western clichés, so that they did it without giving it much thought. Two hours are too long for such a movie. But not to be just critical, there are a few scenes that are worth mentioning. The most enjoyable scene for me was the one with Steve Buscemi. He was so politically incorrect that it was impossible not to enjoy it. But if you want a good western parody, you should try Manitou’s Shoe. I still watch it from time to time. A very unpretentious film that surprises with all the actors it hides – literally ten well-known names and that alone can be a delight. The first half is noticeably weaker and the second is more entertaining, and although it's a weak concoction compared to other Adam Sandler films and I didn't quite get what I was hoping for, there was the occasional joke and the ensemble of main characters was quite fun, so I guess a weaker average on the 2/3 mark is well deserved. But I still can't help feeling that two hours is a bit too long for a film of this kind, and it ultimately hurts it. (10.04.2022)
