La migliore offerta (2013)

Engels I wasn't attracted to the film at first (art, drama, romance are not my thing), but Giuseppe Tornatore is awesome, and there is little that disappoints in his direction. The film has charming sets, antiques and furniture, decent actors and although it’s slower, the final twist is unbeatable. 80%

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016)

Engels I'm not a big fan of Tim Burton, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is the first film of his that I give an above average rating in 16 years. It has just the right magical, mysterious and fairytale aura that gets darker as it goes on. Eva Green is gorgeous, Samuel L. Jackson is amazing and the young Asa Butterfield is set to be an actor of the future. I liked the theme and the monsters, maybe it wouldn't have hurt to shorten the film slightly, but what the hell, I'm satisfied. More episodes are welcome. My only complaint might be the time loop, which is almost everywhere these days. 80%

Sorgenfri (2015)

Engels A decent zombie drama from Denmark. The film is shot entirely in one street and focuses on just one house and one family - a stark minimalist form, but it has its moments. Although the plot is slower, it somehow doesn't get boring and makes the film look real, which I liked. Towards the end there is some blood and action. The ending is depressing and unexpected, for which the Danes get plus points – also for the horny sexy neighbor. Story 5/10, Atmosphere 6/10, Gore 3/10, Visuals 5/10, Action 4/10, Suspense 6/10, Humor 2/10. Entertainment 6/10, Scares 4/10. 60%.

Cold War II (2016)

Engels It wasn't bad, but probably not exactly my cup of tea. Story-wise I wasn't really into it, only the opening sequence, the excellent action in the tunnel and the finale, which could have been more action-packed. Visually the film is okay, the actors are familiar, it's just quite boring, which is a shame with this much potential. 60%.

Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)

Engels Mike Flanagan really is a loser. A lot of people had hopes for him this year, but unfortunately, all three of his horror films this year are mediocrities that nobody will give a damn about. If he had made one horror film instead of three, but a decent one, I would have been happier. I didn’t bother with the first Ouija and if I hadn’t seen the sequel nothing would have happened either. The only upside is the female lead, who plays very convincingly and takes care of two decent scenes, that's where it ends. The flow of the film is uninteresting, even boring at times, the atmosphere is zero, the scares are cheap and ineffective, half the cinema laughed, I yawned and at the end I sighed happily as it was one of the weaker cinema visits this year. Three stars out of mercy. 50%

Under the Shadow (2016)

Engels This film impresses with the setting in which it takes place, but it does not impress with its cheesy visuals and weak sound. We wait almost 50 minutes for a djinn only to get a sail? The scare didn't work for me either as the sound design was very poor, the atmosphere was okay at times, but what of it when it goes blank again and nothing happens. The kid in the lead role got on my nerves like no one has in a long time. Two stars for two interesting scenes in the finale. Next time please less bullshit and more djinn. Very disappointing. 45%.

Bad Moms (2016)

Engels I was apprehensive at first, but in the end I was doubly surprised not only how much I liked the film, but also what a popular hit Bad Moms has become in the US, and that a sequel is already in the works. Mila Kunis is amazing and adorable and Kathryn Hahn is a modern day female Stiffler, she takes care of the humour here without peer and succeeds. The mall scene is awesome. Although the film is more for the female gender, I had fun too, sometimes it doesn't hurt to watch women enjoying themselves. 75%

De GVR (2016)

Engels A pretty enjoyable fairy tale from Spielberg on a subject I like and is somewhat rare these days, it's just a shame that the appropriate age range is around 13. The downside is the plodding pace which detracts from the fun and the leading girl got on my nerves like no one has in a long time (I would go crazy if I had a British intellectual woman like her at home). The visuals were nice and the evil giants managed to take care of the suspense. 60%

Sausage Party (2016)

Engels One of the best ideas of recent years. Seth Rogen, James Franco and Jonah Hill serve another portion of their traditional perverted and vulgar humour, which is impossible not to love. I loved how they captured the issues here and in our time, from religion, racism to bullying. The final gang bang is the highlight of the whole film. I was considering a 5*, but there were a couple of deaf spots that brought down the pace, but still a solid 80%.

Doctor Strange (2016)

Engels Well, I can't share the enthusiasm. The title, Strange, perfectly describes the whole film. I found it too overwrought and it gave me the impression that the they said, let's cram in as much as possible and see what happens. Time loop, space loop, dimensional loop, astral travelling, it's just too much for one film. The villain is traditionally bad, maybe even worse than usual, Mads Mikkelsen is absolutely unsuitable for a villain role, he's not respectable and he didn't have much space either. At least Scott Adkins was a pleasure in a small fight. Visually the film is decent and the action is not too bad, the whole thing is conceived in an original and brilliant way, which was probably the intention, but this style doesn't seem to suit me very well. The final mind fuck trip was too much for me. A stronger three stars. 70%
